The Evangelical Society in Cieszyn has been operating for over 25 years.
Its main aim is to promote Protestant education and upbringing and to foster values such as honesty, reliability and the Protestant work ethic, which the Reformation introduced into social life.
The Protestant Society currently runs four educational establishments:
- LOTE (The Protestant Secondary School)
- GTE (The Protestant Grammar School)
- SPTE (The Protestant Primary School)
- PTE (The Protestant Kindergarten)
The Protestant Secondary School (LOTE)
The opening of the first educational establishment, the Protestant Secondary School, was a great challenge. The idea of founding the school was enthusiastically received, although the financial possibilities of the Evangelical Society were very limited. At that time, a very intensive campaign was launched to raise funds for the renovation of the building. With the help of members of the Evangelical Society and other helpers from Poland and abroad, the dilapidated building was beautifully renovated and equipped. In 1993, the new school year was ceremoniously opened.
The Protestant Primary School (SPTE)
In 2005, another school was opened – the Protestant Primary School at Kirchplatz 5, thus complementing the wide range of educational programmes offered by the Protestant Society. The new school was built in the historic building that used to house a technical college. The remodelling required a lot of sweat, commitment and also a lot of money. The huge classrooms and workshops had to be adapted to the new level of learning and equipped accordingly. The new school year was officially opened in 2005.
The Protestant Kindergarten (PTE)
In 2006, it was decided to open the youngest Protestant educational centre in Cieszyn – the Protestant Kindergarten. This decision brought new challenges. It required a major remodelling of the old Protestant school at the Church of Jesus and its adaptation to work with the youngest children. However, the decision was the right one. The Protestant Kindergarten co-operates with all the schools of the Protestant Society.
The schools run by the Evangelical Society offer
- a warm and friendly atmosphere
- solid education and upbringing
- balanced development of young people at all educational levels
- Development and promotion of talents
- High quality work with the pupil
- strengthening of self-confidence
- experienced and qualified teachers
We are currently experiencing a new reform of the education system in Poland, which presents us with an enormous challenge. The previous 6-year primary school is being reorganised into an 8-year school. Unfortunately, the reform does not guarantee the schools any funding for the necessary remodelling work that would give the old schools a good start in the new educational reality. In our school we do not have enough space for all eight year groups of pupils. The school building urgently needs to be extended, but the tasks ahead of us are beyond our financial means and an architectural design of the planned new building has already been drawn up, but we have no funds to realise it. That is why we are asking for help from people who care about the education and upbringing of children in Protestant schools.
We believe that the new school building will guarantee good learning conditions for the children. It would also be a good symbol of the Protestant community.
